This is an intensive course that assesses existing instructor skills. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate that their boat handling skills remain at a high standard and that they have a good standard of teaching both practical and theoretical aspects of the sport. They will be asked to demonstrate tasks and manoeuvres and deliver effective sessions as an instructor for students including effective briefs and debriefs of students.
The course trainer will also provide an update on any RYA scheme changes and there is a good opportunity to learn from shared ideas and discussions with the other instructor candidates on-board.
Both Cruising Instructor and Yachtmaster Instructors are revalidated on the same course. The level of tasks set by the trainer will be at an appropriate level depending on the candidates qualification.
The centre owns two modern yachts; a Salona 38’ – “Santa Vey” and a Salona 37’ – “Somerled”. Both yachts are fully equipped and inspected yearly by the RYA/MCA. Yachts will be staffed by one member of staff, either a male or a female instructor. All instructors are PVG checked.
Waterproof sets and lifejackets are on-board each yacht. All other clothing is the responsibility of the sailor and we recommend bringing warm comfortable clothing, which is easy to layer, a warm hat, gloves, suitable footwear, towel and toiletries and of course suntan lotion.×
2 Day cruises generally depart from Largs Yacht Haven. Our instructor will welcome you onboard at 1930hrs in the evening and the boat will return to Largs around 1630hrs in the afternoon.
Food provisions for the duration are on-board, you are free to bring extras that you may wish. Eating ashore is sometimes an option but is an additional personal expense and not always on offer due to location.×
