Having succesfully completed the Advanced Powerboat Course candidates may want to take the Advanced Powerboat Examination leading to the RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence. Candidates requiring an exam must mention this at the time of booking to receive an RYA / MCA Exam Application form. Please note the RYA Examination fee, payable to the RYA is in addition to the £180 price.
Minimum Sea Time Requirement;
2 years’ relevant experience including night pilotage. As a guide 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours. If you hold an RYA Advanced Powerboat course completion certificate the seatime is reduced to 20 days, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, 12 night hours.
A passport photo, copy of your VHF/SRC operator’s licence, RYA First Aid certificate or another acceptable first aid certificate, as detailed on the RYA Website.
MCA Commercial Endorsement
On successful completion of the exam candidates can apply for the commercial endorsement of their Advanced Powerboat Certificate qualifying them to work on commercial vessels up to 24m in length, operating in category 3, 4, 5 and 6 waters - that is up to 20 miles from a safe haven. Candidate will require a Sea Survival certificate and a completed medical certificate (ML5), certificate to commercially endorse their certificate of competence. Please note the Commercial Endorsement fee, payable to the RYA is extra. There may also be costs involved with a medical examination.
