This is a comprehensive training course introducing teaching and instructing techniques to candidates and includes RYA teaching progressions within adult and youth sailing schemes. Candidates will practice under the guidance of an experienced coach running sessions both on the water and in the classroom. Our coach will provide regular candidate feedback. The course will involve the use of singlehanded and double handed dinghies.
The aim of the course is to give students background knowledge and the skills to instruct RYA Syllabus’s including; RYA Dinghy Sailing Scheme Levels 1, 2 and 3, RYA Day Sailing and RYA Seamanship Skills.
Assessment is continuous with an externally appointed coach joining the course on the last day as part of the required course and candidate moderation process.
Students should bring a passport photo and copies of all the pre-requisite certificates with them.
RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification is valid for 5 years.
The centre will provide the dinghies, powerboats and indoor teaching areas required for you to perform the practical elements of the course.
Getting wet is unavoidable if you do not have your own correct gear we can supply a wetsuit, wetsuit boots, buoyancy aid and waterproof top for your use, gear can be dried overnight in our drying room ready for the next day’s action. In addition we would request you bring garments such as swim wear, woolly hat and warm socks. Hot showers are available in the changing areas and accommodation areas so bring a towel.×
On arrival check in at our reception which is situated in the main entrance. You will be asked to complete a form with course and emergency contact details. A room key will be issued for residential guests and a brief outline of centre facilities indicated.
Main timings of our day are:
Meals times. Breakfast: 0830hrs Lunch: 1230hrs Dinner: 1800hrs
All meals are served in the dining area.
Activity times. Your activity will run from 0930 – 1630hrs. Your instructors will guide you with clothing, activity and the content of the sessions.
Evenings are generally free time unless your course has specific tutelage incorporated or activities have been pre arranged.×
