Course aims

To train instructors to deliver the RYA Advanced Powerboat course.

Course content

This is a high level course with continuous assessment of the candidates ability to deliver all aspects of the RYA Advanced Powerboat syllabus. Candidates will take turns running sessions to deliver different parts of the Advanced syllabus including boat handling manoeuvres. In particular, a high level of background theory knowledge is required as candidates could be asked to teach aspects from the Yachtmaster shorebased course which is the recommended level of knowledge for Advanced candidates, therefore, Advanced Instructors need to be able to deliver at this level.

Candidates are assessed on their ability to create and safely run a night navigation exercise which forms a key part of the Advanced course.

One of the following Certificates of Competence:

Commercial Endorsement on the above (Advanced Instructors who do not hold a valid CE will only be able to teach RYA Intermediate Powerboat courses)

Additional Information

Candidates should bring a passport photograph and copies of all the pre-requisite certificates with them.

The 5m ribs are used for RYA courses such as powerboat level 2, safety boat and powerboat instructor. The larger 6m and 6.8m can used for advanced powerboat course with and without commercial endorsements and advanced powerboat instructor.

Often people bring their own waterproof clothing for this course. If you do not have your own set of waterproofs the Centre can provide. Buoyancy aids are also included.
