Common to ALL RYA Instructor candidates is that they are required to be a Personal Member of the RYA and hold a valid and current first aid certificate.
Pre Course/Experience and Requirements;
Intermediate non-planing certificate with beach starting and non-planing carve gybe clinics, RYA powerboat level 2, Valid First aid qualification. Member of the RYA
Recent cruising experience as skipper. First Aid Certificate and RYA Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement. Member of the RYA
Minimum 7,000 sea miles. Relevant current commercial endorsement teaching experience. First Aid Certificate, RYA Cruising Instructor Certificate with commercial endorsement. Member of the RYA
Relevant teaching experience in the last five years. RYA Yachtmaster Instructor with requirements stated above. Member of the RYA
A good level of performance and understanding of sailing.
Considerable depth of experience in dinghy sailing. Passed Pre-Assessment, First Aid Certificate, and RYA Powerboat L2. Member of the RYA
At least one seasons experience of teaching and competent powerboat skills. A wide dinghy sailing experience. RYA Dinghy Instructor and First Aid Certificate. Member of the RYA
Two years experience as RYA Dinghy Instructor at an RYA Training Centre. RYA Dinghy Instructor, First Aid certificate and RYA Safety Boat Certificate. Recommended by Coach Assessor. Complete Senior Instructor workbook. Member of the RYA
Good boat handling skills and thorough depth of knowledge.
Five Seasons experience. First Aid Certificate and RYA Powerboat L2 Certificate. Have passed powerboat Pre Entry. Member of the RYA
Extensive experience and navigation knowledge. First Aid Certificate, VHF certificate Powerboat Instructor and Advanced Powerboat course completion certificate and passed Advanced Powerboat Certificate of competence Exam, Member of the RYA
RYA Shorebased Instructor
Candidates should hold the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence or be an Advanced Powerboat Instructor, and have successfully completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Course in the last five years. Candidate’s knowledge should be well in excess of this course and candidates must work through the Shorebased papers that are sent out prior to the course prior to attending the course.
RYA First Aid Instructor
The full three day First Aid at Work Certificate, an equivalent or preferably higher qualification. Once qualified, an advanced first aid certificate must be kept in-date to continue instructing, First Aid at Work is the minimum acceptable level.
