What does the weekend entail?
This should be a weekend of fun and a chance to experience a weekend cruise. You will experience steering a yacht, sail handling, ropework and safety on board. The weekend can be tailored to the groups own desires of what everyone would like to achieve out of the weekend.
A weekend cruise could be simply sailing around the Isle of Bute, taking in Brodick for lunch before heading to Coilintrive for dinner at a mooring. Then heading back the next day to Largs. For the more adventurous it could be depart Friday night for Rothsey then on to Loch Ranza and Otter Spit for dinner on a mooring. Then an early start back to Largs on the Sunday.
There is so much scope on the Clyde for two days that we can always select routes and places to visit suited to the weather conditions. Everyone onboard will be encouraged to try the variety of roles on the yacht and depart on the Sunday, about 4pm, with a better understanding of sailing.
Pre-requisites and experience required?
A great experience for a beginner to yachting or to someone that has sailed a weekend before you could complete a navigation course beforehand to add to your experience.
What will I gain from the weekend?
Once you have completed this course you can obtain a competent crew qualification with a further 3 days of training or 2 further weekends. The time afloat can also count as sea time towards cruising qualifications or for completing the RYA Start Yachting syllabus. Many just go for fun though! These are great courses for exploring the islands of the Clyde estuary and are suitable for all sailors from complete beginner to very experienced.
These 2 day cruises start and finish at Largs Yacht Haven. Cruises begin on a Friday evening and quite often with a short passage to Cumbrae or Bute. The boats are comfortable and well equipped.Equipment and Kit InformationDaily Schedule
