Orkney is a fantastic destination - an archipelago in the Northern Isles of Scotland, situated off the north coast of the Scotland.
Orkney is 10 miles north of the coast of Caithness and has about 70 islands, of which 20 are inhabited.
Starting from Thurso, we will be aiming to sail north towards the ‘Mainland’ of Orkney and to begin the exploration of the area around the north of Kirkwall – within Stronsay Firth. We don’t have a fixed passage plan but a quick look at an atlas or pilotage book will clearly highlight the numerous possibilities that exist.
The final passage of the week is southbound to Wick where the crew will disembark and a new crew will take the yacht further south.
Start and finish marinas are different, so please take this into consideration when organising your travel plans. Both marinas are serviced by good public transport links.Equipment and Kit Information
Cruising activities are enjoyed onboard one of our 2 yachts. The Centre currently has two Solana’s a 37ft named Somerled and a 38ft named Santa Vey. Both yachts are perfectly suited to the waters around the Clyde and the west coast of Scotland. They provide up to 5 berths for client and all courses and cruises are led by one of our experienced instructors.
Food is provided throughout the cruise. Waterproof sets and lifejackets are on-board each yacht. All other clothing is the responsibility of the sailor and we recommend bringing warm comfortable clothing, which is easy to layer, a warm hat, gloves, suitable footwear, towel and toiletries and of course suntan lotion.×
