Beginners welcome or those who have some experience of water sports or sailing. 9+ years.
What does the course entail?
A fun week with lots of time on the water. Young peple follow the appropriate RYA youth syllabus all aimed at making each individual more competent and confident going afloat on both singlehanded and double handed boats depending on the conditions. Beginners often start with an instructror on board and can quickly progress to independent sailing singlehand dinghies. Those joining the course with prior experience or certificates are encouraged to move onto the next level progressing through the syllabus as far as they can. Details of the Syllabus can be found in RYA Youth Sailing Scheme logbook. Certificate issued when each level has been achieved in this progressive scheme.
Our fully qualified instructors will be on call throughout the whole course, day and night and evening activities will be provided to residents.
Pre-requisites and experience needed?
None - beginners are welcome. Students are put in ability groups to maximise the chance of their progression through the sailing scheme and is therefore a g ood introductory course for non sailors or for those who already have some experience up to RYA youth stage 3.
What will you gain from this course?
RYA Qualification in Sailing Stages 1-3 depending on starting experience. This course, however, really is the way to get your child excited about sailing! It is fun being with others and the content is all geared towards their needs and making it as enjoyable as possible. We have a variety of dinghies that they will use and by the end of the five days sailors may have tried the single handed, double handed and catamaran boats. The instructors will be delivering the appropriate level of theory to combine with their practical level of performance and hopefully at the end of the 5 days they will fulfil the syllabus and achieve the certificate being aimed for.
