This day and a half of training is all about preparing experienced sailors to pass the Dinghy Instructor Pre Entry sailing assessment on the final afternoon. The training is delivered by an experienced Senior Instructor, on a 1:6 ratio, and covers the tasks that candidates could be asked to perform during the assessment. Training can also be tailored towards the needs of the students if they wish to work in specific boat handling skills. The assessment on the final afternoon will be conducted by an RYA Coach Assessor. Many students appreciate the benefits of the training and familiarisation aspect prior to sitting the assessment.
Requirements/pre course experience:
. Good Sailing ability in double handed dinghies
. Candidates should have the appropriate sailing background knowledge
. Candidates should have an RYA G14 Coaching handbook. where evidence of the assessment can be signed off by the assessor.
. It is compulsory for RYA Instructors to be an RYA member.
Candidates are required to pass the final assessment part of this weekend before they can attend a Dinghy Instructor course.
The centre will provide the two handed dinghies to be used during the course and other students will help you crew and you will be expected to crew for them.
During the course candidates are welcome to use their own sailing clothing suitable for the conditions on the day. If this is not possible wetsuits, wetsuit boots, buoyancy aids and waterproof tops are available for your use. In addition we would request you bring garments such as swim wear, woolly hat and warm socks. Hot showers are available in the changing areas but please remember to bring a towel.
