We offer a huge range of RYA shorebased and theory courses - VHF, Sea survival. First Aid , Day Skipper, Yachtmaster, radar.

These theoretical courses support the practical skills required for boating. They are delivered by qualified instructors and will provide you with valuable and essential knowledge.

The course date does not suit? we can also run tailored courses outside the advertised programme.

RYA First Aid Course

Age 14 +

One day of intensive tuition for this certificate. This course is recommended for RYA instructors, Yachtmaster and Coastal Skippers and Advanced Powerboat candidates.

RYA Short Range Certificate (VHF) Incl GMDSS radio operations

Age 16 +

This certificate is required for all potential Yachtmaster/Coastal Skippers, Advanced Powerboat handlers as well as any serious cruising sailors.
The course includes training and assessment. A further £25 on the day is required (payable to RYA) & a passport photograph. We can come to you to deliver this course, phone for details.

An excellent one day course giving you an insight into marine diesel engines, their care, maintenance and basic fault finding.

RYA Radar Course

Increasingly popular on both sailing and motor boats, radar is an invaluable aid for navigation and collision avoidance, but is only useful in the hands of a knowledgable operator. This course provides a sound introduction to setting up and using a radar effectively.

RYA Navigation and Safety Course

Age 16 +

This course is aimed at anyone new to sailing and motorboating, including ribs and other small powerboats, sea angling and diving. It will provide the ideal step up for those who do not necessarily want to be skipper but wish to be more involved in the running of a boat.

RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Theory

Age 16 +

This covers an introduction to navigation, chart work and other aspects of boating. This can be complimented with the practical cruising course. Choose to do this over 5 days or as a winter evening class. Some boating experience is helpful but not essential.

This is a certificated course with examinations. It is for experienced sailors and essential if working towards practical qualifications. This can be done on a 7 day residential course or as an evening class over the winter months.

RYA Sea Survival

Age 16 +

This course is essential for anyone going afloat on our coastal waters. Consisting of practical and theory sessions run in the local swimming pool and the classroom. The course includes liferaft drills in the heated pool. It is a must for those looking for a commercial endorsement to other RYA certificates.

ISAF Offshore Safety Course

Age 16 +

A pre-requisite for this course is completion of the RYA Sea Survival course. It includes; heavy weather seamanship, fire fighting, weather forecasting and first aid techniques. This course satisfies the training requirements of ISAF Offshore Special Regulations for Category 0, 1 and some category 2 offshore races

RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorbased course

Age 18 +

This is a 7 day intensive course in astro navigation and worldwide meteorology which introduces the use of the sextant. It assumes candidates already have the knowledge covered in the Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster shorebased course.
This is a residential course and price includes accommodation, meals and RYA course packs.
