RYA Powerboat Level 2

Age 16 +

This is a very practical based course. You will learn how to handle the boats safely at high and low speeds and be trained in other boat handling and practical skills. The course culminates bringing skills together in a coastal passage. No previous experience is required.

RYA Intermediate Powerboat

Age 16 +

Enhancing high speed navigational skills is one of the aims of this course It will also develop your boat handling skills. This course provides a continuation from the skills and knowledge learnt on the level 2 course so previous boat handling experience is required. This course provides useful training for those considering the Advanced Powerboat Course.

RYA Safety Boat

Age 16 +

Upside down dinghies, sunken canoes and rescuing windsurfers. You should be able to deal with a all of these and more after completing this course. An ideal course for those involved with looking after others on the water. Basic boat handling skills are required and a knowledge of sailing is encouraged.

RYA Advanced Powerboat

Age 18 +

Advised for more experienced powerboat handlers wishing to travel further from port. Incorporates day and night navigation techniques. Candidates should already have knowledge and experience of navigation techniques, equivalent to the RYA Day Skipper standard. You are also required to hold First aid and VHF certificate before a course completion certificate can be issued.

RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat Commercial Endorsement Exam

Required if you wish to drive an MCA coded boat up to 24m in length to Category 3 (20 miles from a safe haven, day and night). The dates are designed to follow on from one of our Advanced Courses. We reccomend holding the Advanced Course Completion certificate before taking the exam (it also reduces the required seatime). What we provide is a mornings tuition and the use of our rib for the examination. Candidates requiring an examination must apply seperately to RYA Scotland to organise the exam 0131 317 7388.

Pre Requisites; Those holding RYA Advanced Powerboat completion Cert.
RYA Basic Sea survival course, ML5 Medical, 20 days experience, 2 days as Skipper, 400 miles, 12 Night hours
Those without RYA Advanced Powerboat
VHF SRC Certificate, Valid First Aid, RYA Basic Sea Survival course, ML5 Medical, 2 Days as Skipper, 800 Miles, 12 night hours
