JUNIOR & YOUTH SAILING COURSES

Our Courses

Junior Courses are aimed at students aged 9 -14 years. Youth courses are aimed at students aged 14 -16 years. Sorry! For safety reasons we cannot accept children that are not 9 years old by the start of the course.

Cumbrae offers excellent courses for young sailors, following the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. We provide an introduction to the sport as well as progression for the more experienced sailor. RYA certificates may be awarded. These are very popular courses so book early to avoid disappointment.

Junior Watersports Saturday Club

Age 9 - 14

Running every Saturday in the 2 blocks (May/June and Aug/Sept) these half day clubs offer great fun on the water for youngsters. Chose from a morning 0845 – 1215 or afternoon 1315 – 1645 session. All sessions must be booked and paid for by the block in advance. Refunds cannot be given in the event of non attendance. Transport is available from and to Largs Yacht Haven. Pick up and drop off as session times.

RYA Dinghy Sailing Stages 1 - 4

Age 9 - 14

Brilliant courses to start sailing or to improve on those sailing skills. Suitable for all sailors from beginners, RYA stage 1, up to stage 3 (stage 4 can be covered during the course). Students learn quickly in a safe environment under our staffs excellent instruction. These are by far our most popular courses.

RYA Dinghy Sailing Stages 4 Plus

Age 9 - 14

These courses cater for all abilities and sailors will be split into appropriate groups based on previous certificates and ability on arrival. Fun and Progression and are the main aims of these higher level courses. Course content will be tailored to suit the requirements of the individual and we will improve knowledge and skills through practical sessions in a variety of boats.

Youth & Junior Dinghy Race Training

Age 9 - 16

Perfect for young sailors who show interest in racing. An introduction to race principles, rules and tactics are integrated with improving sailing and generally making boats go faster. Previous experience and basic competent in singlehanded dinghies is required.

RYA Junior & Youth Windsurfing Weekend

Age 9 - 16

A course to get youngsters started. There are kids rigs and new equipment making the sport easier to master.

Learn with others of the same age group. Some sailing will be in boats with instructors and then progressing to single handed boats. We will be working towards RYA certificates. Suitable for beginners and up to RYA stage 4 ability.

The course is structured to provide sailing in different boats, challenging current abilities and improving skills. It’s an exciting week with guaranteed progression and quality instruction. Specific aims and goals can be discussed with the instructors. Can lead to RYA certificates. For competent dinghy sailors.

Junior Adventure Week

Age 9 - 14

An opportunity to try a variety of water activities including dinghy sailing, kayaking powerboating and windsurfing. Great fun and activities will be selected on weather conditions to maximise enjoyment for the group. No previous experience necessary.

Junior Paddlepower Passport

Age 9 +

This course teaches basic kayak control on flat water to young people and provides a safe and enjoyable introduction to the exciting world of paddlesports.
