The Cumbrae Blog

Congratulations 23 New Instructors
The week of the October holidays has been very busy at Cumbrae. Fulfilling its role as an Instructor training facility the National Centre has seen one of its busiest October weeks and despite the wet and windy weather there has been a real buzz around the centre. People had travelled from as far afield as Invergordon to Nottingham and Donegal to Barra to take part in the valued Instructor training at Cumbrae.
17 candidates enrolled on the RYA Dinghy Instructor training and further 6 candidates for the RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor course. We are pleased to announce that all 17 dinghy instructors and 6 windsurfing Instructor candidates successfully completed their courses and will shortly receive their RYA Instructor certificates...well done everyone a 100% pass rate
The Dinghy instructor course was run as 3 separate courses although there were times when it was beneficial to bring all three groups together. This produced a great mix and exchange of ideas on the course and having such a large group of people all working towards the same goal proved to be a real asset and strength of the course. The candidates came from a variety of backgrounds and ages, individually all had their own motivation for becoming an Instructor, some looking ahead for a job in the Med sun next season, others to give something back to their sailing club, while others were involved with voluntary organisationson. Those on the dinghy instructor course received the benefit of input from 7 different Coaches all involved in the training and moderation of the course.
The Windsurfing Instructor course enjoyed a windy week and spent time afloat and ashore working on their teaching and presentation skills and simulator demonstrations.
As the Instructor candidates were finishing off their course the centre was busy preparing itselff for a busy weekend when those who " Instruct the Instructors" began arriving for a weekend of Poweboat Trainers, Dingfhy Coach assessors and Windsurfing Trainers update and conference weekend.
