The National Centre Cumbrae is run by sportscotland, the national agency for sport, leading the development of sport in Scotland. The aim is to increase participation and improve performance by investing in and joining up the people, places and thinking that make sport happen. Sportscotland is a non-departmental public body, responsible to Scottish Government ministers, it is also a National Lottery fund distributor.

Sportscotland operates three national centres; Cumbrae, Glenmore Lodge and Inverclyde all three centres provide excellent training facilities and resources for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sports throughout Scotland.

ILA Scotland
ILA Scotland is a simple way to get up to £200 a year towards the cost of learning something new. It is a Scottish Government scheme for people ordinarily resident in Scotland, 16 or over, with an income of £22,000 a year or less or who are on benefits. The money is not a loan - so you don't have to pay any of it back. If you want to get back into learning then ILA Scotland could help you with up to £200 towards a wide range of courses. You can study with any approved ILA Scotland learning provider.

Cumbrae courses bearing the ILA logo are approved for funding, They have been registered through sportscotlands National Centre Inverclyde, an ILA Scotland learning provider. For more information on funding and eligibility please visit the ILA website

Glenmore Lodge is Scotland's National Outdoor Training Centre located in the heart of Cairngorms National Park.
One of three sportscotland National Centres Glenmore Lodge offers world class training in outdoor adventure sports and encourages more people to enjoy the outdoors more often. They offer courses of all levels in over 10 different disciplines ensuring there is something to interest everyone
Glenmore Lodge aims to inspire adventure by teaching beginners, coaching intermediate/advanced and delivering training and assessment courses for leaders and instructors.

Cumbrae is pleased to be associated with Ocean Youth Trust Scotland. The trust operates three sailing ships which take young people aged between 12 and 24 to sea. Through the shared challenge and adventure of life at sea, OYT Scotland aims to empower young people to discover their true potential.

Cumbrae has a close relationship with the OYT and through a mutual yacht exchange programme the OYT sail training vessels are used on Cumbrae's Ocean Racer and Professional Yachmaster Training courses

National Centre Inverclyde offers a huge range of outdoor and indoor sport facilities for teams and individulas and has residential accommodation for over 140 guests.Inverclyde has grass pitches, floodlit all-weather surfaces, fitness suite and fully equipped lecture rooms, there is a five-hole golf practice facility t While inverclydes facilities have been developed for Scotlands top sportspeople, the facilities can also be used by; - educational institutes, professional and voluntary organisations, district sports councils, businesses and the community in general.

Cumbrae has had a long association with the Fairbride Tall ship "Spirit of Fairbridge"  "Spirit" as she is fondly known, offers a unique experience to young people already engaged with Fairbridge as part of a larger personal development programme.  Fairbridge Scotland has over 20 years of experience working with young people aged 13-25 that other organisations find difficult to engage – helping them to develop the self-confidence and skills they need to change their lives.. Once at sea there is no opting out.

Cumbrae through a training partnership with "Spirit of Fairbridge"  Uses "Spirit" on our Traditional Schooner Sailing course and as part of our Professional Yachtmaster Training programme.

The Scottish Sailing Institute (SSI) is Scotlands world class regatta venue  providing championship organisers from all over the world with professional race management support. The SSI is an integrated partnership comprising RYA Scotland, Largs Yacht Haven, Largs Sailing Club and two of sportscotland’s national centres; Inverclyde and Cumbrae.
Cumbrae's as an SSI partner provides first class on the water safety and race management expertise for, World, European and National Sailing Championships.
The SSI is based in Largs Sailing Club, on the Largs Yacht Haven site and the Institute boasts a well-established on-shore infrastructure with excellent sailing waters and has superb natural advantages that are the envy of many sailing organisations.

Gill is a company that makes ultra-technical sailing clothing for Dinghy, Cruising, Power Boating and Yachting. Their waterproof sailing clothing and sailing equipment keeps you comfortable in all conditions.

Gill and Cumbrae Instructors have been working together for a number of years on the design, development and testing of Gill products,. What better testing waters than the West Coast of Scotland. The National Centre Cumbraes’ sailing professionals, in all weather and all year, are pleased to wear Gill products on a daily basis.

RYA Scotland is a forum for Scottish Sailing with representation from all styles of sailing - from Optimists to OAPs, from dinghies to motor cruisers, from schools to clubs, from ocean racers to windsurfers.

RYA Scotland delivers a World Class Racing Program in order to deliver the Olympic Stars of tomorrow. On their  pathway to success Scotlands’ elite squad sailors train at Cumbrae over the winter months.

The Boys' Brigade was founded in Glasgow in 1883 are rightly proud of their Scottish Heritage. sportscotland Cumbrae is pleased to be associated with an organisation that works with over 60,000 children & young people in over 1500 companies in the UK & Republic of Ireland every week.

The Boys' Brigade provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. Through their programmes they make a positive contribution to a young person's life and their faith.

Niall McTeague  is an artist from the south side of Glasgow who is currently producing  a painting for Cumbrae. Niall gathers his subject matter from his extensive travels through Scotland. Dramatic seascapes, often featuring sailing action are the main subjects of his portfolio along with landscapes and these themes overlap in paintings of hill walking, water sports and skiing which capture the imagination of the viewer. . A member of the Society of Scottish Artists he has exhibited successfully around Britain including being short listed for the Laing Art Show.
